Homework 20th January 2012

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Homework this week is maths as usual, to finish your presentations and to learn to tie your own tie… We will be having a tie contest on Monday and anybody who can’t tie their own tie then will lose Golden Time for not doing homework!  We may sound cruel but Year 5′s should be able to dress themselves!!!

If you have finished your presentations and can dress yourself properly then well done you – you only have to do your maths – hooray! :)

Spelling stars this week are:

  • Alice
  • Kate
  • Bethan
  • Emily

A big well done to all of you for getting three consecutive weeks correct in your spellings. :)

A quick heads up – we will be holding a meeting for those parents interested in the ski trip on Tuesday 31st January at 5.30pm.  We will be inviting some of the Year 6 skiers along to tell you about their experiences and we will be able to answer any questions you may have.  Following the meeting we will be asking for £70 second deposits (if you have already paid £10 or £80 if you haven’t already paid a deposit) by Thursday 9th February to formally confirm places on the trip.

Have a great weekend. :)   Miss P and Mr P.

Homework 18th November

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Well done to all of the children today – you made it a really great Children In Need day!

Homework this week is a learning log homework. The children need to think about why giving money to charity is a good thing.

They have stuck their homework in their learning logs.

Objective: To show why donating money to charity is a good thing to do. To be completed by Tuesday November 22nd

We have been raising money for Children In Need today and as a church school we encourage the children to be charitable year round. In this learning log we’d like the children to show us why it is a good idea to be a charitable person.

  • You could show how being charitable helps you and how it helps others.
  • You could look at different charities and give examples of how people have made a difference by donating to their charity.
  • You could find examples of stories that involve charitable behaviour.
  • You could think about what the world would be like if nobody gave to charity.

Year 5 Homework – November 11th

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Homework for both classes this week is to focus on your household recycling for the weekend. From Friday to Sunday we want you to record on your sheet all of the materials that you use that are recyclable or non-recyclable.

Maths homework for Mr Prytherch’s maths group is called ‘Travelling Distances.’ Your job is to work out total distances in kilometres.
Maths homework for Mrs Jones and Miss Price’s maths group is to complete Test 9.

A reminder that next Friday is Children in Need day. Class 5PJ are having a pyjama and electronics day. Children are being asked to donate a minimum of £1 to be able to wear their pyjamas. One bag of sweets per child only please.

Children in 5JP are having a non-uniform day and are encouraged to wear anything ‘spotty’ if possible.  They can also bring in games and sweets for a fun golden time session in the afternoon.

Have a good weekend and happy recycling! :)

Year 5 class homework – 4th November

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

This week’s homework task is to write a recount about an event/activity you have taken part in/done over the weekend.  We will look at each recount and read them together on Mondy morning.  Your recount will also be stuck in your English book.

For your recount think about where you went, what you did, who you went with, when it was etc.  Remember to try and put your recount in chronological order.

Welcome back to school year 5! :)

There was a lot of positive comments from staff and the proud friends and family of Class 5PJ.

Homework – May 13th 2011

Friday, May 13th, 2011

Homework for Year 5 this week is to complete a St Lucia timeline. The timeline dates from 1500 to 2000 and your task is to find out about any important events which were happening in Britain during this time.

Although we have enjoyed learning about the Victorians please try and make sure that not all of the important events are focussed on that particular era.

Mr Prytherch’s maths group are to complete work on percentages and Mrs Jones and Miss Price’s group are to complete Test 26.

The children (and staff) were all very excited today to hear that Michael Owen is coming to Rector Drew to open our Summer Fair on Saturday, 21st May at 1pm until 4pm.

Have a lovely weekend!

Homework – Friday, 6th May & Welcome back Miss Price!

Friday, May 6th, 2011

We have all been happy to welcome back Miss Price in class 5PJ. She has shared lots of exciting and interesting information with us about her time in Morocco and she has shown us some fantastic photographs of the places she has visited.

Homework for the whole of year 5 this week is to practise punctuation. The children have to rewrite sentences, adding in all the missing punctuation and capital letters. We feel that this is an area in which all of the children need to revisit.

Mrs Jones and Miss Price’s maths group have to complete Test 25. The children should have no trouble with the questions about decimals because they are all experts in this area now :)

Mr Prytherch’s maths group have to complete a sheet which involves dividing a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number including remainders.

During our English lessons this half term year 5 are learning about myths and legends. Our focus in  Geography is the island of St Lucia.

A letter went out today to each child informing them about our school trip to Blists Hill Victorian Town in Telford. This is an educational visit as part of the year 5 History topic about the Victorians. Although it is some distance away we feel that it is worthwhile as we have been informed that it is a very interesting experience for the children and that they will gain a lot from visiting the attraction.

We hope you have a good weekend!

Mrs Jones, Miss Price and Mr Prytherch :) :) :)
